The New Mexico State Bar Foundation's Modest Means Helpline is actively seeking more individuals in need of legal assistance. This service is aimed at New Mexicans whose incomes are below 500% of the federal poverty guidelines, focusing on providing support to those who are underrepresented in the state.

Residents can contact the helpline by calling 505-797-6013 or 888-857-9935. The phone lines operate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mountain Time.

The attorneys associated with the Modest Means Helpline offer legal advice over the phone for civil matters, including domestic relations such as divorce and child custody, landlord/tenant issues, small business concerns, consumer matters, and probate cases.

Kasey Daniel, Legal Services Director of the New Mexico State Bar Foundation, stated: “The main goal of the Modest Means Helpline is to help people who are representing themselves in court to understand what their next steps are so they can have meaningful access to New Mexico’s judicial system.”

Since its establishment in October 2022, the helpline has entered its third year and has already assisted over 15,400 residents of New Mexico. This initiative underscores the foundation's dedication to supporting local communities.
