Today, the New Mexico Senate held a regular floor session in Santa Fe. The session included discussions on several legislative items.
Senate Bill 274, sponsored by Senator Wirth, aims to update state asset valuation and transfer processes. The bill proposes raising monetary value thresholds for which approval by the State Board of Finance is required for dispositions of tangible property and real estate by certain state entities. This change is intended to streamline property disposition processes by reducing the number of transactions needing review and decreasing the time spent on approvals. The bill passed unanimously with a vote of 39-0 and will now move to the House of Representatives for further consideration.
The Senate also confirmed appointments made by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. Gary John Tripp and Elaine Luna were both confirmed as members of the New Mexico Highlands University Board of Regents with votes of 32-0.
Additional legislative business included the passage of Senate Bill 18 concerning the crime of swatting, which passed with a vote of 36-0. Senate Bill 180, addressing changes in self-service storage rental regulations, passed with a vote of 26-16. Lastly, Senate Bill 507 regarding firearm licenses and transfers was approved with a vote count of 27-10.
