The New Mexico Workers' Compensation Administration (WCA) has announced that Heather Jordan has been confirmed as its new director by the New Mexico Senate. The announcement was made in a press release on March 5, 2025.
Jordan, who has over a decade of experience with the WCA, previously served as Deputy Director, Court and Programs Administrator, and Clerk of the Court. Before her tenure at the WCA, she worked for 20 years with the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County at the Metropolitan Detention Center, supporting justice system operations. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and continues to focus on improving agency operations and community outreach.
According to Senator Elizabeth "Liz" Stefanics, who sponsored Jordan's confirmation, "Director Jordan is a dedicated public servant with decades of experience leading teams and prioritizing New Mexico’s needs. Her background in the workers’ compensation industry ensures a smooth transition as she takes on the leadership of the Workers’ Compensation Administration."
Jordan expressed her commitment to her new role by stating, "I am truly honored to lead the Workers' Compensation Administration and to serve the dedicated workers' compensation community. I look forward to fostering collaboration and ensuring fair and efficient processes as New Mexicans work through the workers’ compensation system."
The WCA manages the delivery of benefits to injured workers while balancing interests between workers and employers. It ensures compliance with workers' compensation insurance requirements for most businesses. The agency provides mediation services, an administrative court system for disputed claims, assistance through its ombudsman program, workshops, safety training, and administers the Uninsured Employers' Fund for injured workers whose employers lack required insurance. The WCA operates multiple offices across New Mexico, including its main headquarters in Albuquerque.
