The New Mexico Senate has unanimously confirmed Manny Barreras as the cabinet secretary for the Department of Information Technology. Governor Lujan Grisham expressed confidence in Barreras, stating, "Technology is the backbone of efficient government service—Cabinet Secretary Barreras understands this. His expertise and vision for modernizing our technology systems will help improve how New Mexicans interact with state government."
Senator Michael Padilla also praised Barreras's qualifications, noting his extensive experience in both public safety communications and network security. "Manny Barreras is exceptionally qualified for this role. He is a dedicated public servant who also brings with him decades of private sector experience," said Padilla. He sponsored Barreras's appointment in the Senate and acknowledged Governor Lujan Grisham's decision to select him.
Upon confirmation, Secretary Barreras expressed gratitude: "I am truly honored and deeply appreciative of the trust the Governor and the Legislature have placed in me." He outlined his vision to modernize and expand New Mexico’s digital infrastructure, focusing on innovation and improving information technology services across executive agencies.
Barreras has over 26 years of experience in sales, business development, and government relations, with a significant portion focused on technical sales and public sector solutions. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from New Mexico State University.
Before becoming secretary, he was a Senior Territory Account Manager for a major public safety radio supplier covering New Mexico, El Paso, Texas, and Arizona.
