Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has announced a partnership with BorderPlex Digital Assets, LLC to establish New Mexico as a leader in digital infrastructure. This collaboration is expected to create 1,000 jobs and boost economic growth through significant investment in the region.
The partnership involves a Memorandum of Understanding between the State of New Mexico and BorderPlex Digital Assets. The first integrated Digital Infrastructure Campus will be built in Santa Teresa, combining power and water infrastructure with advanced manufacturing, logistics, and data center facilities. "This groundbreaking partnership further cements our reputation as a national leader in advanced manufacturing and global trade," stated Governor Lujan Grisham.
Lanham Napier, Chairman of BorderPlex Digital Assets, expressed enthusiasm for the project: “We firmly believe that the next wave of frontier tech belongs on the American frontier.” The campus aims to serve as an economic engine by providing jobs across various sectors while driving local investments.
Projected construction spending by BorderPlex Digital is estimated at $5 billion over the next decade. Rob Black, EDD Secretary-Designate, noted that the campus will have widespread positive effects: “The BorderPlex Digital Infrastructure Campus will have a ripple effect across Southern New Mexico and the border region.”
Discussions are ongoing with state and local governments regarding incentives such as tax credits and workforce training programs. Davin Lopez from MVEDA highlighted that this development aligns with long-term goals for infrastructure investment.
El Paso Electric has collaborated closely with BorderPlex Digital to design necessary infrastructure. Kelly Tomblin from El Paso Electric emphasized their commitment to regional growth: “By collaborating with BorderPlex Digital, we’re not just providing power – we’re helping create integrated infrastructure.”
Orion Digital Infrastructure will provide essential power and cooling solutions for the campus. Peter Gibson from Orion stressed their role in supporting AI and high-performance computing investments.
BorderPlex Digital is also working with New Mexico State University on water management solutions. NMSU President Valerio Ferme remarked on their contribution to economic development through research efforts.
Additionally, EPCOR is exploring a potential water desalination project in Santa Teresa. Daniel Bailet from EPCOR underscored their focus on sustainable water solutions for continued economic development.
These initiatives reflect a commitment to compliance with the Energy Transition Act through community-focused project development.
