State Rep. Rebecca Dow said that the ‘No More Lines’ initiative aims to remove boundaries for public and charter schools, allowing parents the freedom to choose the best educational option for their children, especially now that there are fewer opportunities for school transfers. Dow was a guest on a recent episode of the Tipping Point New Mexico podcast.
"We took away the A through F report card," said Dow on the Tipping Point New Mexico podcast. “With that, the boundary of where children must attend, having the freedom to move outside of an A school or D school into one that's better. There are not a lot of schools throughout the state that you could transfer to those schools. When that scoring went away, so did the opportunity to leave your traditional zip code boundary.”
“There's an effort called No More Lines,” said Dow. “We remove the boundary between kids in public schools, and charter and allow those parents to choose the school that best meets the student's needs. Now that bill’s about to be filed, and I'm excited about that.”
According to the No More Lines Coalition, the initiative works to remove district boundaries that limit students' access to public schools. The goal is to allow families to choose the best educational option for their children, regardless of where they live, ending the system of residential school assignments that often ties educational opportunities to housing costs and racial segregation.
This edition of the podcast features Representative Rebecca Dow discussing key legislation at the 2025 New Mexico legislative session, including paid family leave and education reforms. She addresses challenges related to school choice, transparency, and the influence of special interest groups.
Dow represents Grant, Hidalgo, and Sierra counties as a Republican politician. She previously served as a state representative before reclaiming her seat in House District 38 in 2024.
