The city of Albuquerque has dedicated its latest mural, "La Puesta del Sol," located at the Rail Yards Pattern House in Downtown. This artwork is part of the city's Public Art Program and was created by local artist Roberto Lara. The mural represents a significant professional milestone for Lara, marking his largest proposal to date.

Roberto Lara, known for his contemporary mixed media paintings with street graffiti influences, expressed gratitude for this opportunity. "I’m very thankful for the opportunity to paint at the Rail Yards, as it was a place where I’d paint and explore when it was abandoned. Now years later, being involved in the revitalization of the Rail Yards is something I will forever cherish," he stated.

Dr. Samantha Sengel, Chief Administrative Officer of Albuquerque, highlighted the significance of this new addition to the city's art scene. “Today, we celebrate a beautiful new mural and a powerful story about Albuquerque’s spirit,” she said. She noted that " ‘La Puesta del Sol’ marks the beginning of our Rail Trail’s artistic journey."

Commissioned by the Albuquerque Arts Board, "La Puesta del Sol" features vibrant colors and abstract representations of Albuquerque's cultural and natural elements. It includes depictions of iconic downtown buildings and the Sandia Mountains while capturing New Mexico's renowned sunsets with hues symbolizing warmth and hope.

Lara emphasized that this project signifies just the start of many future endeavors: “The power of art and creativity will continue to motivate me, as this project is just the beginning of many more to come.”
