The State Bar of New Mexico has issued a statement regarding the recent presidential action on January 21, 2025, which referenced state and local bar associations. The organization has been supporting attorneys in New Mexico and assisting the public for over 139 years. Its mission is guided by Supreme Court Rule 24-101 NMRA, which emphasizes aiding courts in improving justice administration and promoting inclusivity within the legal profession.
Aja N. Brooks, the first Black President of the State Bar of New Mexico, expressed pride in the organization's efforts to maintain inclusivity consistent with its rule, mission, and legal obligations. "We are steadfast in our commitment to fairness and justice and dedicated to welcoming all voices into our profession," stated Brooks.
Founded in 1886 as a bar association for the territory, the State Bar of New Mexico now comprises more than 10,000 members, both active and inactive. Its goals include aiding courts in administering justice, preserving the rule of law, and fostering high standards of integrity and competence within the legal field.
