New Mexico pastor on abortion: ‘If the church does not stand for these children, who will?’

Roy Weaver, Pastor of Calvary Rio Rancho in New Mexico, addressed the Save the Babies Rally on January 29, emphasizing the church's moral responsibility to oppose abortion and uphold biblical values amidst what he described as a societal moral decline.

"Those children who died that fateful day and the ones we are talking about today are the same, only separated by a few years," said Weaver. "The state of New Mexico is at the top of what we call moral bankruptcy."

According to Weaver, New Mexico actively promotes abortion with state approval, contributing to a "virtual sea of blood" from innocent children lost to abortion. He stressed the church's duty to speak out against such practices and warned that silence from church leaders could lead to societal deterioration. Weaver called for a unified stand against abortion, asserting that the church must defend biblical values against state policies that contradict them.

The Center for Arizona Policy (CAP) reports that historically, the abolitionist movement was deeply rooted in Christian theology, with churches playing a central role in advocating against slavery and mobilizing communities for justice. Similarly, during the civil rights movement, Black churches provided essential leadership and moral guidance. This historical precedent illustrates how faith-based activism has driven significant social justice reforms and can now extend to advocating for the unborn.

A meta-analysis cited by OGMagazine involving over 800,000 participants found an 80% increased risk of mental health problems among women who had an abortion. The analysis attributed 10% of this risk directly to the procedure, with the strongest effects linked to substance use and suicidal behavior compared to women who carried pregnancies to term.

According to Calvary Rio Rancho's website, Roy Weaver and his wife Dana have been part of Calvary Rio Rancho since 2012. He leads several ministries within the church community, sharing religious teachings and encouraging fellow believers.
