Zach Fort, New Mexico Shooting Sports Association (NMSSA) treasurer, said the governor is pushing for a ban on homemade firearms, that it would be unrealistic due to advances in 3D printing technology, and that individuals have the right to own firearms independently. Fort was a guest on a recent episode of the Tipping Point New Mexico podcast.
"She's really pushing for a ban on homemade firearms," said Fort on the Tipping Point New Mexico podcast. “People have been making their own firearms in their own homes since the beginning of this country. What that has looked like has changed over the years, whether somebody has a CNC machine, 3D printer, or whatever. People have always been making their own homemade firearms. I've made my own homemade firearms before.”
“I don’t think you can actually do it with how far homemade firearm technology has advanced, with things like 3D printers, where you can actually 3D print a lower receiver for a firearm with a relatively basic 3D printer these days,” said Fort. “That's a bill we’re expecting to come up, and we’re going to oppose it. Part of exercising your right to do something is not necessarily needing to rely on anybody else to exercise that right."
This edition of the podcast features guest Zach Fort, who returns to Tipping Point NM. Fort, handling legislative affairs for the NMSSA, discusses threats to gun rights, crime, and the potential for meaningful action against it in the 2025 legislative session. The conversation also covers Governor Lujan Grisham's stance on gun rights.
NMSSA is a non-profit focused on promoting firearm safety, supporting law enforcement and military training, organizing shooting events, and advocating for responsible firearm ownership.
