Colonias Development Council announced that, in collaboration with over 30 partner agencies, it will host a One Billion Rising event in Las Cruces as part of a movement to end violence against women and all. The announcement was made in a press release on February 1, 2025.
According to the event website, the One Billion Rising event in Las Cruces will take place on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the New America School parking lot, located at 207 S Main St. This family-friendly event invites everyone, with a focus on individuals affected by violence.
The press release states that the event will feature information tables from various local organizations, including the Police Department, Las Casa Inc., La Piñon Sexual Assault Recovery Services, PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays), Health Department, Legal Aid Society of New Mexico, New Mexico State University (NMSU) Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico (CAWA), and the New Mexico Breastfeeding Task Force. Attendees can enjoy music, dance, refreshments, raffles, and giveaways. It will include a creative resistance dance as part of the Million Bodies Dancing World Video to amplify the message of resistance against violence. The event serves as a call to action, raising awareness of violence and promoting solidarity in the Las Cruces community.
