A coalition of advocates in New Mexico has expressed support for Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's recent executive order aimed at protecting 30% of the state's lands and waters by 2030. The initiative, known as “Protecting New Mexico’s Lands, Watersheds, Wildlife, and Natural Heritage,” is intended to preserve the state's landscapes and biodiversity while enhancing economic opportunities.
The order is expected to expand access to outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. It also aligns with the views of nearly 80% of New Mexicans who favor conserving 30% of land and waters by the year 2030.
Michael Jensen from Conservation Voters New Mexico, Joey Keefe from New Mexico Wild, and Jamie Trafficanda from Western Resource Advocates are among those supporting this initiative.
