A man has been charged with assault involving a dangerous weapon following an alleged stabbing incident outside a grocery store in Shiprock, New Mexico. Josiah Bodie, 22, who is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, appeared before a federal judge and will remain on release conditions until his trial date is set.
According to the criminal complaint, officers from the Navajo Nation Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing on November 12, 2024. Upon arrival at the scene within the Navajo Nation, they discovered a male victim suffering from a stab wound. Bodie was found nearby in possession of a knife equipped with brass knuckles.
The complaint further alleges that Bodie initiated a physical confrontation with the victim outside the store and subsequently stabbed him. If convicted of these charges, Bodie could face up to ten years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced the charges today. The investigation was conducted by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office with support from both the Navajo Nation Police Department and its Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Caitlin L. Dillon is handling prosecution duties for this case.
It should be noted that a criminal complaint serves only as an allegation; all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in court.
