On August 10, 2023, the Keller Administration welcomed a historic billion-dollar solar manufacturing investment. Maxeon Solar Technologies, a global frontrunner in solar advancements, is set to establish a $1 billion solar panel manufacturing plant in Albuquerque according to a press release.

"Albuquerque is at the forefront of the movement to bring manufacturing back home because of our unique location, affordability, and skilled workforce," said Albuquerque mayor Tim Keller.

Maxeon's plans encompass the construction of an expansive 1.9 million-square-foot facility to accommodate their operations, projecting the employment of around 1,800 individuals, thereby contributing high-quality employment opportunities to Albuquerque. This initiative is set to generate a substantial economic influence of approximately $4.2 billion in New Mexico over the forthcoming decade, constituting a pivotal economic endeavor and marking the most significant venture of its nature in the city's contemporary chronicles according to a press release.

Mayor Tim Keller said, "This massive project brings good paying jobs in clean energy ans will help foster new opportunities for families in New Mexico and create a more sustainable future for America."

Mesa del Sol, the city's forward-thinking 'smart growth community,' will become the site of their inaugural solar cell manufacturing facility in the United States, a commendable reshoring endeavor made feasible by President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act.

“We undertook an intensive process to assess sites across the nation to find the right home for our first U.S. manufacturing facility, which includes solar cell fabrication and panel assembly. New Mexico had everything we were looking for a strong business-friendly climate, supportive infrastructure, focus on workforce development, and deep roots in energy leadership,” said Maxeon Solar Technologies CEO Bill Mulligan according to a press release.

“New Mexico is an energy state, and with this landmark investment, Albuquerque is becoming a leader in the clean energy economy,” said Max Gruner, Director of Economic Development for the City of Albuquerque according to a press release.
