Obituary
Marie Rea "Fritzie" Trujillo peacefully went home to The Lord on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Marie was the daughter of Archie and Ruth Riley Rea. She is survived by her sister, Sally Rea Muckle; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aquiles; brother, Chad Rea; and both her parents.
Marie attended University of New Mexico, then entered the order of Sisters of St. Joseph Carondelet where she received her master's degree in nursing. She then volunteered as a missionary in Lima Peru, Ocobamba and other rural Peruvian communities.
In spite of many hardships, including earthquakes, she loved Peru and its people. She even slept outside fully clothed and with shoes on so she could be ready to go at any moment. Eventually, due to her health and the need to care for her father, she left the convent to return to her beloved New Mexico. She returned to hospice nursing and home health care for Presbyterian Hospital. She also taught nursing at TVI in Albuquerque.
She was dear to all her friends and family, and anyone that met her felt the beautiful spirit that she was. She was a blessing and is deeply missed. Marie often said "WHEN I DIE, I'M NOT GOING TO REST IN PEACE, I'M GOING TO WORK FOR THE LORD." The family would like to thank the hospice staff for their care of Marie.
Rosary will be recited on Sunday, April 23, 2023, 4:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Lomas, with a Reception to immediately follow. Mass will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, 11:00 a.m., at San Antonio Catholic Church, 8566 Highway 55, Tajique, NM 87016, with burial to follow.
