Obituary

Donald Wayne Kersting, 89, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 10, 2023. Don was born in Denver, Colorado on Saturday, July 8, 1933. He lived a long and rich life in Colorado and eventually moved with his family to Albuquerque, NM. Don is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sally Kersting; oldest child, Shelley Shilvock; son, Don Kersting; son, Todd Kersting and his wife, Katie; grandson, Maxwell Shilvock; and grandson, Cameron Shilvock, wife, Megan Shilvock, and their daughter, Abigail Shilvock (Don's great-grandchild). He has a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Frank Comstock, who live in Salida, CO. 

 

Don grew up in Denver, CO, and had a very active time with school and related activities. He was an avid basketball player, boxer, and accomplished fisherman. He had an amazing skill that he cultivated an appreciation for with his entire family! Don attended St. Joseph's HS and upon graduation, he continued his academic studies at Regis College in Denver, where he studied Law. Don married Sally in 1953 and hence began a long life of wonderful family adventures and diverse career endeavors. Don was a hardworking and tenacious businessman. Early on he created a company, Al Donco. He continued his participation in the business world as an education and sales rep with Denver Automotive. This position enabled Don to traverse the state of Colorado, enrolling students for auto training. From here he transitioned into his next position as Director of Admissions at Colorado Aerotech. Subsequent to this, Don was asked to coordinate the education and training program for Rice Aviation in Houston, TX. Don maintained a long career of excellence while concurrently participating in a rich and full family life. He was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather and continually enjoyed teaching his family about the joys of life including domestic and international travel. Don and his family were avid Bronco fans and had season tickets for over 20 years. Don was a long-time member of the Catholic Church. 

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., Risen Savior Catholic Church, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE Albuquerque, New Mexico 87109, with a reception to follow at FRENCH - Wyoming Reception Center.
