Obituary

It is with heaviest hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Christopher Catarino Quintana on Sunday, January 1, 2023, at age 97. He was born in Arboles, Colorado on November 25, 1925.  He lived in Durango, CO and moved to Barelas community as a young boy when his mother passed away.  He graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Albuquerque. He was a World War II and Korean Conflict Double Purple Heart survivor and Bronze Star Recipient.  He was a decorated hero followed by a 33-year career as Tour Superintendent with the U.S. Postal Service in downtown Albuquerque.  He was a devout Catholic and family man; loved hunting, camping, fishing, bowling, and loved his Babbs, Barbara Walters. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Quintana and Eufemia Martin-Quintana; sisters Marie Quintana, Phoebe Chavez, Trinnie Sanchez, Flora Robles, Mary Storey, Rosalie Martinez; he has one surviving sister, Cecilia C'DeBaca of Albuquerque.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucy Carrillo Quintana, of Albuquerque, his children, Cathy Olson (Reg) of Corrales, Martin Quintana (Nicole) of Morgan Hill, California, Irene Quintana Commins of Torreon, Teresa DeMenge (Flip) of Albuquerque, Anna Sammons (Steve) of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Bridgette Guenter, Paige Commins, Renee Commins, Kristin Perez and Adrian Quintana, and six great-grandchildren, Waylon, Willard, Emilia, Giuliana, Christina, and DJ. 

We are thankful to Irene Commins for her enduring commitment to caring for our father; and to the many in-home care providers from LaVita Bella and nurses from Compassus Care.

A Rosary and Mass are schedule at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Parish on Friday, January 27, 2023, at 9:45 AM, with immediate burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will be held later in the afternoon and will be announced at the service.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to Disabled American Veterans in his honor.
