Obituary

Our loving Dad and Grandpa, Vern Van Klompenberg, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022. He is survived by his children, Tim and Julie (Van Klompenberg) De Groot of Sunnyside, WA, Jerry and Cindy (Van Klompenberg) Cosper of Albuquerque NM, Jeff Van Klompenberg of Albuquerque NM, and Cheri Van Klompenberg of Denver, CO.

Grandchildren include Sam and Megan Fopma from Sioux Center, IA, Michael and Denise De Groot from Salem, OR, Matthew and Janessa De Groot from Kennewick, WA, Kalen and Emily Cosper from Albuquerque, NM, Clint Cosper from Albuquerque, NM, and Nick and Melanie Kerekes from Albuquerque, NM.

Vern is survived by three siblings, Lyle and Lois Van Klompenberg of MI, Diane and Tony Blok of MI, and Darl and Karon Van Klompenberg of MI.

Vern was preceded in death by his wife Linda Van Klompenberg (Spoelman); and siblings, Glenn Van Klompenberg, Bonnie Veldboom, Dennis Van Klompenberg, and Judy Gras. Vern and Linda were married for 59 years. Together they moved their young family from Michigan to Rehoboth, NM, as part of their desire to be of service through their church, the Christian Reformed Church. Vern was a registered nurse, one of the first men to graduate from his nursing school with that degree. As a nurse he worked in many different areas from psychiatric nursing to hospital and clinic settings to kidney dialysis to substance disorder treatment settings.

He served on various boards during his lifetime, including the Red Mesa Foundation.

Throughout their lives, Dad and Mom loved to travel to visit family and friends, usually in Michigan, but Dad rarely thought of any drive as being too long. Later, visiting his kids and grandkids became a big focus of the travel and he continued to visit both the Van Klompenberg and Spoelman families in Michigan. Dad and Mom also enjoyed serving with Disaster Response Services through the CRC church and saw many interesting new places while helping to get aid where it was needed.

Viewing will take place Saturday, April 30, at 9:30 a.m., with a service following at 11:00 a.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. A reception, honoring Vern, will be held after the service at Fellowship Christian Reformed Church, 4800 Indian School Rd. NE.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Rehoboth Christian School, Rehoboth, NM.
