Obituary
Ida Mae Jack, age 97, born into the Kínłichii’nii clan and born for the Naakai Dine’e people, her maternal grandparents are of the Ta’neeszahnii clan, and her paternal grandparents are of the Ashnii clan. She is a beloved grandmother and mother, was called to her eternal resting place on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. She entered this world on May 15, 1924, in Torreon, NM, born to Pedro Toledo and Mae Ida Chiquito.
She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Miles; her son, David Rico; daughter, Mary Acevedo; 24 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Ida Mae was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jimmie Toledo Sr., George Smith, and Ernest Toledo; son, Bobby Rico; daughter, Ella McCabe; grandsons, Edmond Rico, Waylon Rico, Pedro Rico, and Sheldon McCabe; granddaughter, Alicia Rico and other great-grandchildren.
Ida Mae enjoyed weaving blankets as well as being a silversmith. A midwife by trade and a rancher. She was involved in the community school board, elderly care throughout the community and a foster grandparent for over twenty years. She was involved with the first non-profit organization in her community. She and the family traveled as part of the 1939 Chicago World’s Fair. An active member of the Native American Church. When she was young, she had good horsemanship.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., FRENCH – Westside.
A traditional burial will follow at Torreon Mission Cemetery in Torren, New Mexico.
