Arthur Amza Key

An Albuquerque resident since 1959, Art passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 27, 2020 at the age of 84. He was born May 26, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Amza Arthur and Alice Faye Walts Key.

Art graduated from Southport High School in 1954, Indiana Central College with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry in 1958, and the University of New Mexico with a Master of Education in Science in 1963. He taught chemistry and math at Highland High School from 1959 to 1963 and retired after 28 years from Sandia National Labs in 1992. After retirement he worked in home remodeling, IT support, and at Isotopes Park and enjoyed traveling.

Art was known for his optimism, generosity, quiet nature, self-reliance, friendliness, and love for his family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean; three sons Michael Key of Irvine, CA, Bradley Key and wife Judy of Albuquerque, Douglas and wife Michelle of Monterey, CA; eleven grandchildren Steven Key (Michelle), Jordan Key Guerra (Jonathan), Bailey Key (Veronica), Brady Key (Katharine), August Key, Addison Key, Chamberlain Key, Quincy Key, Amy Janoff (Michael), Bobby Schubert, and Alexis Lewis (David); fifteen great grandchildren Elijah Guerra, Moriah Guerra, Ethan Key, Hannah Guerra, Sabrina Key, Selah Guerra, Avery Key, Brynleigh Key, Brooklyn Key, Penelope Key, Cody Janoff, Matthew Cisneros, Riley Lewis, Leia Lewis, and Quinn Lewis; brother Thomas Key (Elia) of Knoxville, TN; uncle Perry Key of Albuquerque and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who also loved him very much.

Art was preceded in death by his sister Dixie Key Clemenz in 1980, father Amza in 1984, grandson Matthew Key in 1992, mother Alice Faye in 2000, sister Donna Key Kerr in 2017, and grandson Christopher Key in 2017.

Art lived the last six years of his life lovingly cared for by the staff of Tender Heart Assisted Living Home. We will announce our plans to celebrate Art’s life later in the year and give you a chance to honor him with us.

A Celebration of Life service will take place on Tuesday, October 12 , 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary of Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna Road NE.
