Obituary

Sunday, July 11, 2021 Cynthia Dell Swafford loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away at the age of 96. Cynthia was born September 17, 1924 in Hillsboro Texas to Fred and Iola Herring. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth Herring.

The Herrings moved from Hillsboro to Wink in 1936. Cynthia graduated from Wink High School in 1942. She went on to study accounting at Howard Payne University in Brownwood Texas.

Jack and Cynthia were married 75 years. When Jack was serving in the Army during World War II, he wrote a letter to his father asking him to give Cynthia an engagement ring on April 2, 1945. Jack arrived back in the states Jan 10, 1946, was discharged from the Army Jan 15, 1946 and they were married Jan 20, 1946.

She is survived by Jack her husband; son, Chester Swafford (Barbara); and daughters, Sherry Kellam and Penny Herzog (Chris); 5 grandchildren, Dustin McCullough, Brooke McCullough, Taylor Herzog (Stephanie), Andrew Herzog (Michelle), and Clayton Swafford; and 2 great-grandchildren, Quinn Zirlin and Patrick Herzog.

Cynthia will always be remembered for her loving care and devotion to Jack and her family. She cherished her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Cynthia was an accomplished seamstress and skilled in many creative arts. The Dallas Cowboys have lost their biggest fan. She looked forward to every trip to Laughlin to play her favorite poker slot machines. She was a dedicated Christian and completed 5 years of Bible Study Fellowship. They belonged to First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque for 21 years.

Cynthia had quite an impressive bookkeeping career. She began working at Modern Furniture Company in 1946 so Jack could attend The University of New Mexico to complete his civil engineering degree. During the next 24 years Cynthia worked for Dr. Albert Maisel, a primary care physician, Dolan and Clear Law Firm, IBEW Electrical Union, and The Carpet Company. She completed her career working for Kellam Orthodontic Practice. She finally retired at 85 years of age.

This redhead was the Matriarch of our family, loved by each and every one of us and will be greatly missed.
