Obituary

Nancy Overton Covalt, beloved mother and grandmother, faithful, dedicated, and loving companion, succumbed to cancer on Monday, July 12, 2021, after a brave fight over the past year.

Born Friday, June 28, 1935, in Rochester, Minnesota to Dr. Lewis and Helen Overton, Nancy was the oldest sibling to Lewis Overton Jr (deceased) and Mary Pashyo. While Nancy was in middle school, the family moved to Albuquerque when Dr. Overton took over the Orthopedic Dept. at the Lovelace Clinic. Nancy excelled at Highland High School, where she was a member of the first graduating class and made many of her lifelong friends. She attended Mills College in San Francisco for two years, before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania to finish her undergraduate studies.

She married Cale W. Carson Jr. of Albuquerque in 1957. It was here in Albuquerque that Nancy and Cale raised their four children, Kit, David, Jane, and Mary. While raising her family, Nancy was a vibrant and constant presence in the Albuquerque social scene, throwing and attending many political, charitable, and social events. She served on multiple boards and completed her master's degree at UNM, after which she began her professional career in counseling, where-on she worked in APS for over 30 years of dedicated service.

Nancy was happily married a second time to Louis Covalt in 1977 until his death in 2001. She was fortunate to share the last five years of her life with William Bertenshaw, her steadfast companion.

She had many interests and especially loved reading and learning, but travel was her favorite hobby as she travelled the world many times over.

She is especially remembered for the unwavering, unconditional love and support she showered upon those of us who knew her best.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Cale (Kit) and Jan Carson, David Carson, Jane and David Cooley, and Mary and Brian Matteucci; ten grand-

children; three stepchildren from her second marriage and their children; companion, William Bertenshaw; her sister, Mary Pashyo; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 23, 2:00 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust St NE. Masks are required per New Mexico law. The service will be a joyous celebration of her life and Nancy would want everyone to wear their favorite summer attire.

In lieu of flowers, donations are gladly accepted to her two favorite charities: A Childs Garden Pre-School Tuition Assistance Fund and The Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome Foundation (TTTS).

May her bright and beautiful eyes and smile light our way to heaven someday.
