Obituary

A wonderful father, son, brother, grandfather, friend, and child of God, Frank Donald Cook, passed away on Thursday, June 3, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the age of 80.

Frank is preceded in death his wife Deborah Maes Ivie and son Wes Ivie.

He is survived by his partner Fran Szabo, son Joseph Cook and wife Cindy, four grandchildren: Wesley Ivie, Eric Ivie, Jacob Cook, Rebekah Cook, also numerous family members that live in and around the Greensboro, Alabama area..

Frank was born on January 17, 1941 in Greensboro, Alabama to the late J.W. Cook Sr. and Shelley B. Cook. He had two siblings: sister Martha Dell Cook Trippe Pike and brother J.W. (Boots) Cook, Jr. He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1959.

Frank played baseball for Pittsburgh Pirates AAA farm league. In 1968 he met and married the love of his life, Debbie. They resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico with Debbie's son Wes. Joe was born in 1971 which completed the Cook family.

Frank was an avid fisherman. He took the time whenever possible to fish the various lakes in Alabama and New Mexico. Frank owned and operated the gas station at Montgomery and San Mateo where he raced stock cars on the dirt track at Speedway Park. He enjoyed coaching and caring for Thunderbird Little League. He eventually coached baseball at Del Norte High School from 1988-1995.

Debbie passed away in 2001. Frank then met a wonderful companion, Fran Szabo, that has made his life exciting and adventurous. In 2017, his son Wes, joined his mother with the Lord.

Frank was a caring and generous man that always inquire about others well being and health. Frank will always be remembered for his love of Alabama Football and Bear Bryant which he passed along to his four grandchildren. Frank enjoyed talking and visiting with anyone that would spare the time. His love of baseball passed graciously on to his son and grandchildren, with whom he loved to watch games.

There is no substitute for a father’s love and he loved us no matter what. Frank had an unbreakable spirit; he never gave up and never quit believing in God and family. Frank will now stand, not sit; run, not walk; dance and jump before the Lord.

“The time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”  2 Timothy 4:6-8
